Interactive Orchid

Flexible sensors, Arduino, Orchid plant, LCD Monitor, laptops

This work uses technology-mediated interactivity to implement a culturally meaningful artwork in a modern and accessible way. The simplicity of the interaction strategy (stroking the leaves of an orchid allows a user to create a traditional Korean painting) is rooted in the author's interpretation of the symbolism both of the painting style and the interactive gesture (the stroking) itself. When an orchid leaf is selected and wiped using the thumb and index finger as if sweeping it down, an orchid leaf is drawn one after another inside the digital frame.
